Layering System Simulator
Test different clothing combinations and see how they perform under various weather conditions in Lapland.
Understanding the Layering System
Base Layer
The base layer sits directly against your skin and manages moisture. It should wick sweat away from your body to keep you dry. Materials like merino wool or synthetic fabrics work best.
Mid Layer
The mid layer provides insulation and warmth. This is where you'll adjust for activity level and temperature. Fleece, down, or synthetic insulation are common choices.
Outer Layer
The outer layer protects against wind, rain, and snow. It should be breathable enough to allow moisture to escape while keeping elements out. Hard shells offer maximum protection.
Key Principle: The layering system should allow you to add or remove layers as conditions and activity levels change. Always carry extra layers in your pack for unexpected conditions.
